Q1. Where are you from?
Kansas City, KS
Q2. How did you discover copywriting?
I was a really bad fundraiser at a really great nonprofit. Nothing I wrote ever brought in any money. I was starting to look for other jobs that didn’t require working with words. But then one day I accidentally wrote a great letter that generated much more than I could ever have hoped for. That’s when I realized that I actually could write for results. About 10 years and many million dollars later, I found out that what I was doing was called copywriting. I’ve never looked back since.
Q3. What forms of copy do you write?
Emails, Sales Pages, VSLs, WSLs, etc.
Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?
Among others: personal development, fundraising, parenting, cooking, homeschooling.
Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?
If you’re not crying as you’re writing, why would anyone bother reading your copy?
Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?
I love Daniel Throssel for sheer entertainment, Troy Ericson for his sincerity, and I’ll forever be grateful to Anik Singal for starting me in copywriting.
Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?
I recently achieved an 8% conversion rate for a client. And I’m about to publish my first book Fundraising From Scratch.
Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?
I admire your taste in copywriters!
Q9. What is a good email address for prospective clients to contact you?
