Q1. Where are you from?
Michigan
Q2. How did you discover copywriting?
Fell into it as a leader in the nonprofit field. The Executive Director usually wears several hats. I found myself writing content for websites, email promotions, advertising through video and radio, and newsletters both on paper and electronically.
Q3. What forms of copy do you write?
Emails, newsletters, blogs, advertising, and scripts.
Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?
I love writing about leadership and relationships.
Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?
Basically interesting, simple and functional, works better than trying too hard to impress.
Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?
Joe Coleman. He is creative and catches energy through words very effectively.
Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?
I have recently started some self promotional writing that I feel good about. Too soon to see its effectiveness but I feel good that it will reach the targeted demographic and be effective in promoting the resume development part of my business.
Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?
After giving them a modest portfolio of my work, I would ask them to get familiar with my writing and talk about how I would adapt the writing to what they are looking for and possibly do a short written demonstration on how I would do that.
Q9. What is a good email address for prospective clients to contact you?
