Q1. Where are you from?

Traverse City, Michigan

Q2. How did you discover copywriting?

I spent 6 years in a wheelchair and writing became an escape for me. When I learned I could write AND get paid…BONUS!

Q3. What forms of copy do you write?

I write emails for eComm brands.

Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?

I don’t have a favorite niche. But I love writing for brands with personalities. Brands with a story, and an honest to goodness passion for what they do. They could sell a damn toothbrush. It doesn’t matter, because, I know this toothbrush has a reason, and one hell of a reason at that ;)

Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?

I’ve struggled with imposter syndrome in the past. The number #1 lesson I learned was to trust myself. Once I got out of my way, it was so much easier!

Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?

Justin Goff, because he’s talented AF, he gives back to his community and he’s real — not a pretentious bone in his body.

Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?

I’ve been in the industry for many years but my imposter syndrome really held me back. After working at the same agency for a year, they’ve asked if I’d be interested in working as their copy chief, ya’ll! Still gonna keep writing emails as well … writing is my first love;)

Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?

Show me the money!! Just kidding. We’d have a little chat, see if our stars align, go from there.

Q9. What is a good email address for prospective clients to contact you?

debra@upnorthadvertising.com
