Q1. Where are you from?
Vancouver, Canada
Q2. How did you discover copywriting?
My dad had an HR consulting business, and he discovered copywriting while trying to promote his business. Then after I graduated college, he shared a lot of classic DR copywriting books with me. By this time I’d pictured myself in advertising sitting around a boardroom table coming up with ideas, a la Mad Men. Well, this helped get me close to that, so I was hooked!
Q3. What forms of copy do you write?
Anything that needs direct response copy: Sales letters; emails; advertorials; Facebook and YouTube ads; direct mail
Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?
Natural health
Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?
You cannot underestimate how easy it is to turn readers off your copy. So you better know your audience like the back of your hand.
Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?
Parris Lampropoulos. Full disclosure, he’s my mentor, but I marvel at the expertise he’s accumulated. And how he doesn’t seek the spotlight. He quietly goes about crushing it while improving people’s lives.
Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?
I’m holding the control for 2 products at one of my health clients. And started affiliate mailing for one of them, too!
Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?
I’d ask them questions. Lots of questions to ensure they’re the right fit. There isn’t room for them all here, but chief among them are, “What are your goals for this project?” and “Can you share as much about your target audience as you can?” and I’d also ask them if I could talk with a few of their customers.
Q9. What is a good email address for prospective clients to contact you?
