Q1. Where are you from?

LOS ANGELES

Q2. How did you discover copywriting?

Back in college. I was taking a Creative Strategies & Tactics class over at Cal State Fullerton when my professor gave us a copywriting assignment. I’ll never forget it – we had to write taglines for Naked Juice. He wanted everyone to come up with at least 10 options; he would then pick the top 5 taglines out of the entire class (over 50 people). Needless to say, 3 out of the 5 were mine. That’s the first time in my life I received a “see me after class” on a paper that ended up being positive. The professor (shoutout to Gerald Wright) asked me if I ever considered becoming a copywriter. I said I had no interest in the law. Facepalm emoji here. Anyway, we chatted and that’s how it all started.

Q3. What forms of copy do you write?

All of the above. Email. Sales. Scripts. TV. Radio. If it needs words, I write them and have written them.

Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?

I’m a car and sports junkie so I’ve always loved writing in those niches. That said, I’ve actually also loved writing in niches I know nothing about. It’s super challenging and gives me the chance to learn something new too.

Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?

The true magic of writing comes in the rewriting.

Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?

Luke Sullivan. His “Hey, Whipple…” book had a huge impact on me when I was in ad school. It really made me fall in love with the process.

Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?

I wrote the 2020 Hyundai “Smaht Pahk” Super Bowl commercial featuring A-listers Chris Evans, John Krasinski, Rachel Dratch, and David Ortiz. It garnered something like 75,000,000 views across social channels, not to mention countless earned media.

Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?

You give me the ingredients and create the recipe and bake you the best damn cake you’ve ever had.

Q9. What is a good email address for prospective clients to contact you?
