Q1. Where are you from?
Southern California
Q2. How did you discover copywriting?
John Finn introduced me to copywriting and got me my first jobs with Jay Abraham and Gary Halbert.
Q3. What forms of copy do you write?
I specialize in long-form direct-response ad copy — having grown up in the long-long-ago before the Innernet. I learned how to make DIRECT MAIL work like gangbusters. I’m very Old School, reluctantly adapting to a digital world.
Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?
Over the last 40 years, I’ve written just about everything: FinPub, Health, Hard Money, Fitness, Golf, Self-Defense, Non-Profit Fundraising, Info Products, Biz Opp — you name it. I also do B2B, not just B2C.
Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?
Think Like a Customer
Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?
All-time fave has always been Gary Bencivenga. Classy copy from a classy guy. His copy was the very first finpub I studied, back in the days of Phillips Publishing.
Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?
My best direct-mail sales letter got a 25% response rate, bringing in millions of dollars each time it was mailed.
Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?
Brace Yourself
Q9. What is a good email address for prospective clients to contact you?
