Q1. Where are you from?

Portland, Oregon

Q2. How did you discover copywriting?

Moving from technology advising and learning about The Machine from DigitalMarketer. The starter templates in this email system are incredible and also needed significant tweaking to get it to the point where I thought it wouldn’t be over the top for financial planners.

Q3. What forms of copy do you write?

Email, sales pages, blogs, short form video content, podcasts.

Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?

The nature of the financial planning profession. Digital marketing. Finology, which is the study of money and it’s meaning in our lives, where we discover and uncover our deeper relationships with how we earn, spend, give, and receive value.

Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?

Take a break after you’ve finished a solid draft. Reread your work. Look for the underlying structure and how that relates to the points you want to make.

Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?

Perry Belcher. He’s funny, a touch of crass, brilliant and is looking for results over people thinking he looks good. The Harmon Brothers have a lot to teach as well.

Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?

We’ve been averaging a 30-60% open rate

Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?

That in today’s copywriting environment, you need to speak to your ideal client. It’s crucial to understand the transformation that you make in their lives. Not just what they “have” afterwards, but also how their average day changes and how they feel.
