Q1. Where are you from?

Lansing, Michigan

Q2. How did you discover copywriting?

After reading Bill Bonner for years, in 2003 I got one of the original paper installment versions of AWAI’s Accelerated Program for Six-Figure Copywriting. Hands down the all-time best ROI of any program — and I’ve bought over $100k of copy courses in my life. Clearly, once I caught the “copy bug” I was hooked for life. I became a full-time copywriter in 2008, turned myself into a digital nomad in 2009, and have been living the writer’s life ever since. I’m thankful to have worked with clients on every major continent and in every vertical, including the most niche gurus you can imagine all the way up to Hollywood A-listers and presidential candidates.

Q3. What forms of copy do you write?

I’m known for creating sales campaigns that can successfully run for years, even in tough markets. Sales letters and emails are my focus right now, along with select ghostwriting projects and content pieces in support of my favorite clients. I know how to write compliant copy for financial marketers doing investments, alt asset placements, or gold/silver offers, love bringing biz opp and lifestyle products the sweet love & sales they deserve, and have a knack for voicing “quirky” products.

Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?

Survival/Preparedness, Biz Opp, Lifestyle, Financial, Alternative Finance, Travel, and unique E-commerce.

Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?

Make it simple for your audience to understand how they win/benefit from taking the next step.

Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?

Pure copywriters are actually not my favorites — I love the copy-marketers! To me, that’s folks like Dan Kennedy, Doberman Dan, John Carlton… writers who have a laser focus on sales outcomes, and are willing to put aside “pretty” writing to connect with their audiences, make a great offer, and capture the sale.

Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?

Even in the crazy markets of 2022, I’ve had three successful letters launch (and one just got a VSL makeover to keep running in 2023). I’m also celebrating Year Seven for my longest running control, which we just tweaked to push into a new market segment. Plus, the writing community I support — The Professional Writers’ Alliance — continues to grow, which brings me a real joy as it’s a place that helps new writers come into our wonderful, chaotic, and thrilling copywriting world.

Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?

Let’s chat about what you’re trying to accomplish. I may be the best person to help you… or you may be eternally grateful for the referral I’m about to give you :-)

Q9. What is a good email address for prospective clients to contact you?

jadams@awai.com
