Q1. Where are you from?

Cranford, NJ

Q2. How did you discover copywriting?

When I found out there was a demand for my two favorite hobbies — writing and researching — I discovered copywriting! I then started dabbling in it as a hobby, but when I saw how much people need the service and that I could turn it into a career, that’s exactly what I did. It‘s been said that “the pen is mightier than the sword,” and it’s true: with just one well-crafted sentence, you can change someone’s mind about something. With a well-written piece of copy, you can even change their entire life. That’s powerful!

Q3. What forms of copy do you write?

Sales letters, blogs, website content, social media posts, emails, newsletters and more

Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?

Mental Health, Ethics, Trauma, Healing, Spirituality, Mindfulness, Coaching, Branding, Content Marketing, Entrepreneurship, AI

Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?

The number one lesson I’ve learned as a copywriter is that you have to be comfortable taking calculated risks. I know it sounds obvious, but you’d be surprised how many people can’t wrap their heads around this idea. They think they have to be 100% certain that what they’re putting out there will work, or they’ll just stick to what they know. They don’t want to take chances because they’re afraid of what might happen if things don’t go as planned. Also, you can’t just sit back and expect things to happen — you need to go out there and make them happen.

Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?

My favorite well-known copywriter is Gary Halbert. I started reading Gary’s words when I was just a kid, and I’ve been a fan ever since. His writing is so powerful, and he’s able to convey so much meaning in just a few sentences. I love his work because it’s so direct, but also very clever. He has a way of getting to the point, but then also injecting humor or other interesting ideas into his copy that make the whole thing fun to read.

Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?

My biggest and most recent win was getting my very first personal article published in an online newspaper a few months ago! While I have had countless other works that I have written or contributed to get published or circulated amongst thousands of people and before twice as many eyes, this was the first time I got credit for it. There is something so rewarding about seeing my name published alongside an article. It made me hungry for more.

Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?

I would tell them that I welcome constructive criticism and feedback on my work. That is how I learn and grow, and also how their copy gets transformed into being: just right. Much of my work is anticipating their needs, and naturally, getting them results. However, we ultimately co-create optimal copy. We do so through the exchange of ideas; I whittle those ideas down to excellence with my word-craft. Co-creation is where the magic happens! Also, if they want my copy to fit neatly ‘into a box’, so-to-speak, and to follow rules that exist because of time but not because of reason, well then they’ve got the wrong person! Oh, and of course, thank you!!

Q9. What is a good email address for prospective clients to contact you?

jess@beautyandbirch.com
