Q1. Where are you from?
Portland
Q2. How did you discover copywriting?
well I knew about copywriting back in the 80s. Back then if you were a copywriter you were working for an agency or you were writing for the PennySaver. It wasn’t until I hear Justin Goff on a podcast where I thought I could do that. So I started listening to Justin and Stefan Georgi and that’s rekindled my interest in copywriting.
Q3. What forms of copy do you write?
Mostly I’ve written emails. I just finished my first landing page so I’m pretty happy about that. It will be mixed media of video and copy. But I enjoy email because I get to write every day. 150-500 words depending upon the email list. My goal is to acquire or build my own list.
Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?
Golf, and sports in general. Anything self-improvement oriented where people have an opportunity to change their life situation.
Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?
The market is never wrong. That’s why testing is so important. We have the opportunity to test out a lot of copy for very little cost. Back in the day there was a cost associated with copy that was mailed out. In the Internet world we get more swings at the plate.
Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?
David Ogilvy. The lessons you learn from him are still effective today.
Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?
I just finished my first landing page and wrote an email sequence for a meditation company. So I’m looking forward to that campaign going live. Also I’m going to working as a fractional CMO for a spine clinic in Austin.
Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?
There’s a gap between where you are and where you want to go. Improving the copy of your marketing efforts is one way to fill that gap. But there are more ways to double or triple you business faster with less effort. And I’d be more than happy to share that with you.
Q9. What is a good email address for prospective clients to contact you?
