Q1. Where are you from?

Madison, Wisconsin

Q2. How did you discover copywriting?

I saw an ad for a copywriting course online. I had been in corporate sales for 17 years, but had never heard of copywriting before.

Q3. What forms of copy do you write?

Sales pages, sales letters, and email series.

Q4. What are your favorite niches to write in?

relationships, community building, personal development

Q5. What is the #1 lesson you've learned as a copywriter?

The art of reading people is more important than any copywriting formulas or techniques.

Q6. Who is your favorite copywriter & why?

Ben Settle. He has a distinctive voice, he understands people better than any other copywriter I know, and he doesn’t suffer fools.

Q7. Do you have any recent wins to share?

My Cafe Back Room private community just celebrated our 7th anniversary and also hit a milestone number of members. This is where my heart and energy are these days.

Q8. What would you say to a prospective client who wants to hire you?

Every good copywriter writes great messages and gets conversions. I do that, too, of course. In addition, I can read people like a book. My years in selling and tens of thousands of face-to-face conversations have given me a much deeper understanding of people. I’ll put that to use as we develop messaging for your campaign.

Q9. What is a good email address for prospective clients to contact you?

steve@steveroller.com
